If you are going to review something, be objective. Don't let personal experience get in the way of giving what ever it is an objective review. Even if you had problems with it, state that, but don't directly say something to the effect of "it sucks". That is not only un-objective but down right mean. The coders (or who ever made what it is you are reviewing) has put time and effort into something that you are putting down. Now, don't get me wrong, I do this sometimes, but I don't say that it out right sucks. I point out what I think is wrong and give options on how I think it could be better. This is constructive criticism and will more than likely make the person who you did the review on take a second look at what was done. If you out and out put down the product there is a good chance it will just be left out to die. The next time that you are going to review something, think about something that you have put a lot of time and effort into. Then think about how it would feel if someone came along and said that it sucked. - demigod ---------- [ Mail Bag ] ---------- This weeks mailbag question is: Who would you like me to interview? e-mail - mailbag@xsweely.com url - http://www.xsweekly.com/mail.html ----------- [ Spotlight ] ----------- - Chaku's Site Chaku is the coder of some great modules like Popupck, ckVWM, and lsCDEject. Not only does he have his modules listed here, but also some other programs he has coded. url - http://www.geocities.com/chaokuolin/ ................................................. -= Shell Specific =- ................................................. --------- [ Modules ] --------- - grdAmp 1.05 ~ grd (9:58 06.11 ls) "grdAmp is almost like geekamp or any similar module. It provides !bangs for controlling your music experience. The main difference between grdamp and any other !bang player controller is that this module, doesn't require ANY program running in the background which makes it more of a music-player and less of a play-controller." New in this version: - Massive rewrite (so you can expect some buggyness) - Most important thing is that the playlist now exists as a separate class. This actually means that by the next version it's going to be possible to connect an external playlist. This enables grdamp to be a full featured musicplayer for those that want that and those who want a lightweight litestep-music-player can have it another great addition is the fact that nowadays only the currently active input plugin is loaded. This will hopefully make it more memory effective. This also has effect on streams. You will only be able to open streams with a module that is already open. So to play a stream that in_mp3 can read (don't use in_mp3 still) you have to first load an mp3 and then load the stream directly after. - !grdampopen has been somewhat improved (thx again blkhawk) and the module is generally alot cleaner (although NeXTer would prolly disagree). - !grdAmpClearStack, !grdAmpSaveStack & !grdAmpShuffleStack have all been renamed to !grdAmpListClear, !grdAmpListSave, & !grdAmpListShuffle and grdAmpRandom, grdAmpRepeatOne & grdAmpRepeatAll have all altered names; grdAmpListRandom, grdAmpListRepeatOne & grdAmpListRepeatAll this is all to provide a difference between grdAmp inside commands/settings and grdAmpList specific commands/settings. url - http://floach.pimpin.net/grd/ls/ e-mail - grd@swipnet.se (source: http://floach.pimpin.net/grd/ls/) +-------<*>-------+ - LsBox 2.0 ~ Black Hawk (10:39 30.10 ls) LsBox is a skinable easy to customize and {resource-friendly} alternative to the "normal" shortcutgroups for a number of applications like freefloating menus, messageboxes, and configuration dialogs. New in this version: - Fixed the !LsBoxDestroy function, seems still to be crashing on some win2k machines. I still don't know what causes the crashes. - Fixed the !lsBoxShow and !LsBoxHide functions - I broke them in the last release. %%UPDATE%% (9:19 07.11) - Added LsBoxOnLeftClick - Added LsBoxOnRightClick - Added LsBoxStartHidden - This will let you start a box Hidden by default. - Added !LsboxResetPos - This will help if a box was moved in some unnatural way.
