About XSWeekly (LSWeekly) by demigod
XSWeekly is a weekly, text only, news letter dedicated to currently active shells and smaller alternative OS's. It also includes a weekly rant from me, a shell and web site of the week, and other things that I find interesting.
XSWeekly originally started out as LSWeekly in August of 1999. Since then I have expanded my coverage into other shells and alternative OS's. While it seems that the bulk of the news is LiteStep related, I am trying to cover more and more. The news is primarily dry and just there as a weekly wrap up of the various shells/os's. I do add some personally commentary in the beginning and try and help promote lesser known sites and not so active shells.
Every now and then I will send out a special edition of XSWeekly. These are usually interviews with prominent people in the community. Now and again I will do a special edition that is not an interview. These would consist of a review of something new or an important topic that I feel needs a special edition.
This entire news letter and site are run only by me. I have created a dos batch script to check sites for changes and hand code the entire page. I do use a weblog program for posting news items which I do every so often. These consist of either site or letter changes. I do not post news that goes in the letter on the site.
Here is a list of the section and what you will see within each:
- Personal Section
- - The first thing is my weekly rant. Here I tend to rant about this that have affected me in the week or in the recent past. This is all personal and sometimes the information contained within isn't factual, just rumors or how I feel about something.
- Mailbag
- - Each week I ask a question and then post the answers on the
Mailbag page. [not available as of 2011, by philsci] - Spotlight
- - This will contain a smaller, usually personal, website. I use this section to let people know about little known sites.
- Shell Of The Week
- - Here I will promote a shell that isn't as active as the ones that I have in the letter.
Here is how the entries work and a list of possible variables (if applicable):

About XSWeekly Archive by philsci
XSWeekly (and formerly LSWeekly) was published in 1999-2001 by demigod as a mail magazine to tell us topics, news and interviews in LiteStep community and shell replacement / customization community in later. All issues and special volumes were available at xsweekly.com but now we can not reach it. It was a great resource and effort for the community so I asked demigod to keep these issues at other site. demigod kindly gave me a permission to publish all issues at InterfaceWorkshop (former name of crossedge.net) so I would like to put this note and publish these issues for people who want to know about the community in the last milennium. Again, thank you very much demigod.
Now XSWeekly and LSWeekly (as same contents and available as TXT/PDF format) are also allowed to published at Shell-Shocked.org. Thanks ravi and shell-shocked team.
ここでは XSWeekly(LiteStep 関連だけを扱っていた初期は LSWeekly と言いました)というメールマガジンを再公開しています。
